Screen mesh degrades faster than most people expect in this climate, and a single storm can tear a whole panel. On pool cages and lanai enclosures specifically, a damaged screen is also a pest and debris entry point, not just a cosmetic issue.
Service re-screens the affected panel using mesh matched to the existing weight and weave, and checks the spline and frame track at the same time, since a loose spline is often why a screen tore in the first place.

Replacement mesh is matched to the weight and weave of the existing installation, so a repaired panel sits and looks like the rest of the enclosure. On pool cages in South Florida a finer weave is common, because it also keeps out the small insects that pass straight through standard mesh.
Fiberglass mesh left in the South Florida sun for years turns brittle and chalky. It tears at a touch, and it usually splits first along the spline line, where the mesh is held into the frame. The spline itself hardens and shrinks with age, so the mesh pulls loose and starts to sag even where it has not torn.
Pets are the other common cause: tears at claw height on doors, and frames bent by a dog pushing through a panel. Storms add their own damage, from debris punctures to whole panels pushed out of a pool cage. On sliding screen doors, the failure is usually mechanical rather than the mesh: worn rollers and a track that needs adjustment let the door jump its track, and the mesh then tears around the handle as the door is forced.
If one or two panels are damaged and the remaining mesh is still flexible, repairing just those panels is enough, and it is what we recommend. There is no benefit in rescreening sound mesh.
If the mesh tears easily in several places, or feels brittle across most of the enclosure, the undamaged panels are usually near the end of their life as well. In that case rescreening the enclosure in one matched mesh is the practical route, rather than a series of single-panel repairs over the following seasons. Either way, the spline is checked and replaced wherever it has hardened, because new mesh set over failed spline will not hold.
Frame damage is assessed separately. A bent or corroded frame section is not fixed by new mesh, and we will tell you plainly if a panel needs frame work before it can be rescreened properly.
